This is one of the most inportant tools that I use doing flames. It is the helping hands that you can get at Radio Shack with a roll of tape to set the body on. Its very important to have the body at just the right angle to paint the graphics on useing stencils.

This is one of my stencils that I use, this one has been used a lot. You want to hold it as flat as you can against the body, the air from your AB will push it against the body the rest of the way. You also want to use an AB that you will work at 10 to 15 psi, to much air pressure will cause excessive overspray to get under the stencil. I use a Badger 150 AB and a Badger Whirlwind 2 air compressor. I use medium thick stencil material from Hobby Lobby, but I have heard KB say that he uses blister packs, card stock or what ever he has laying around. I draw my flames on to the stencil material and then I use a swivil knife to cut them out.

This is the first layer of flames using Alclad chrome lacquer over black that has been clear coated. You can use what ever paint you want with this technique though. I blended the flames into a fade after the flames were painted on.

This is with a coat of candy red over the Alclad chrome, no masking necessary as the candy paint has very little effect over black. You will want to clear coat at this time for the next layer of Alclad chrome flames.

This is after the second layer of Alclad chrome flames. I used a little candy orange and then yellow on this layer of flames. Here again, the progressively lighter colors of candy has little effect on the colors below, so no masking is necessary.

Thanks Rick for sharing your technique ,can`t wait to give it a try ,68
